DCM for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. ‘ Whilst engaged with his company in digging in, they were enfiladed by machine gun fire, whereupon he promptly collected four men, crossed a stream and captured the gun by working round it. At the time he remained out under heavy fire until his company had finished their work, and then returned with his party. He set a splendid example of initiative and coolness under fire.’
