Notes
Staindrop Parish Messenger August 1915 " He was the third son of Mr William Walker (all four of whose sons are serving in the army at the present time). At the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the 10th DLI and went with his battalion on Foreign Service a few weeks ago. His company commander writes that 'his loss is deeply mourned by the officers, NCOs and men of his company - he was a good and and faithful soldier and servant to his King and Country.' While the officer, to whom he acted as orderly, writes expressing the grief of his loss."
